Cuevas Azul

Cuevas Azul is a fully sympathetically restored cave that sleeps up to 6 people.  Cuevas Azul is a traditional cave but with a modern-day twist, with modern amenities set in traditional and authentic surroundings, a perfect blend, it’s quirky, it's charming and away from civilization with all the home living comforts and much more.  Comprises of 3 bedrooms (2 x king size one has a feature skylight and 1 super king room that a log burner and access to a small balcony with stunning mountain views), the living room has comfortable seating areas, TV and log burner, fully functioning kitchen and dining area. The cave has an average temperature of about 18 degrees all year round so cool in the summer & warm in the winter.  Central heating or aircon is not needed, but we have 2 log burners just for a few chilly winter nights (1st baskets of logs is complementary, there is a small charge for replenishment of logs).  Free WIFI available.

Many people report sleeping in a cave and say its the best night’s sleep they have had in ages and then wake up to the stunning landscape and fantastic views of the Sierra de Baza mountains.

The Outside area consists of a dining area, a bespoke pool area 🏊 with sun loungers, reclining chairs, pergola, an outside snug cave, BBQ which is available for use.  Relax, chill and sunbathe during the day by the pool (seasonal), in the evening you can watch the amazing sunsets or just gaze at the stars at night, as there is almost no light pollution and often you can see many stars and planets.

Set in the Rio de Baza, Cuevas Azul is set in a tranquil and unspoilt landscape with stunning views of the Sierra de Baza Mountain range within the Altiplano de Granada.

Cuevas "Al Jatib" is restaurant/café/bar which is 2 min walk from us.  It’s a great little place for food and drinks it also has traditional hammam (booking required) and an experience not to be missed.  Granada is one of the last provinces to still offer free tapas with majority of cold drinks.

Museums, Old Arabic Baths, Sierra de Baza, trekking, kayaking, medieval caves, mountain biking, motor-biking, stroll through the quaint village of Castril, explore where the 1st settlers of Europe in Orce, local markets, local masseur, variety of eateries and much more.

Lake Negratin is approximately 20 mins away by car, you can enjoy a swim in summer as in winter (bit chilly) around the majority of the lake there are beaches as well as thermal springs (Zujar) also there is kayaking available on the lake. The lake is overlooked by Mount Jabalcon which you can drive around, there are places to stop to take photographs of the stunning views. 

Further afield is Alhambra Palace, Sierra Nevada in Granada and the beaches of Mojacar.

Baza our local town is only a 10 min drive along a country road with lots of olive trees along the way and a few dotted farms and caves.  It’s a wonderful historical town there you will find lots more bars, cafes & restaurants including a few supermarkets. Local markets everyday in nearby towns & villages.
